Traize Research team
Alongside my role as Co-Founder and CPO, I am part of the Traize Research team. It brings my interest in machine learning together with the challenge that started Traize: making knowledge easier to capture, find, and use.
ProstT5: Bilingual language model for protein sequence and structure
My work at Rostlab contributed to this paper, published after my MSc. ProstT5 learns to translate between protein sequences and structural representations. I am proud to be a coauthor alongside Michael Heinzinger, Konstantin Weissenow, Joaquin Gomez Sanchez, Milot Mirdita, Martin Steinegger, and Burkhard Rost. A special thank you to Michael Heinzinger: working with him was a highlight of my time in research. Martin Steinegger also coauthored the landmark AlphaFold paper.

“From Hallucinating to Lucid Dreaming: Controlled Protein Design using Diffusion Language Models”. At Rostlab, I explored how diffusion language models can guide protein design. The work connected my fascination with biology to generative machine learning and contributed to the research behind ProstT5. Thesis grade: 1.0.
MSc Bioinformatics
I stayed at TUM to deepen my understanding of data visualization, software architecture, and protein design. I finished my studies at Rostlab, where I brought these interests together in my master’s thesis.
Bachelor’s Thesis
“Communication Efficient Approaches to Federated Deep Neural Networks”. Under the supervision of Reza NasiriGerdeh in the Baumbach Lab, I investigated how to make the training of federated deep neural networks more efficient. Thesis grade: 1.0.
BSc Bioinformatics
I chose bioinformatics because I was fascinated by computer aided drug discovery and the information encoded in the human genome. Machine learning became my focus: a way to find patterns in biological data and turn them into useful insights.
Statistics
After school, I began studying statistics, but quickly realized that I wanted to do something with biology. That led to an internship at Definiens in March 2017 and, soon after, to bioinformatics. I returned to the Definiens team at AstraZeneca in 2019.
High School
Kurt-Huber-GymnasiumMy interest in biology and mathematics began here. During my lower secondary school years, I also played basketball in the U16 Bundesliga for FC Bayern Munich.
